It’s not really a secret that when Jensen’s sleeping, he’s good and dead. There are times he wakes up with his head smashed into a pillow, nearly hanging off the bed, or tucked under all of the covers and he’s confused as to what day it is, what time it really is, how many times he’s allowed the snooze button, or where he even is. So when he’s got one arm crushed beneath him and another slung over the side of the bed, blankets tangled all around his legs and keeping him from moving, and a mass of hair in his face, he takes a few moments, and a few blinks to figure it all out.
And that’s when he realizes it’s not human hair, but tufts of orange and white, fluffing at his nose with every subtle movement. He sleepily sighs and shifts his upper body to cuddle around the cat, truly adoring how she hardly ever leaves his side. Jensen tucks his head a little closer so he can smell the sweet silk of her hair and feel it tickle under his nose. He smiles lazily, still drowsy, but loving this moment.
It gets a little nicer when the bed shifts and Jared rolls into him, reaching an arm over and stroking the top of Tessa’s hand with light fingers.
Jensen closes his eyes, feeling Jared melt into his back, sleepy breathing coasting over Jensen’s shoulder and down his neck. He relishes the quiet morning, where just their breathing and Tessa’s purring can be heard.
After a bit, he looks down on her, seeing Jared’s fingertips still grazing over her coat while his own brush over her belly. Tessa really makes a difference at the end of the day when’s worn out and she reads it. She’ll pad her way up his chest, circle then settle down with her purrs vibrating through his chest and into his heart.
He’d never thought keeping a cat would really make his life this warm.
The dogs make noise from the hallway and Tessa stands, stretches, and jumps right off the bed. The space she held is still warm, but his hand is cooling from where she had been and he closes it in a fist as he sees Jared doing the same. Then Jared settles in closer, arms tucking Jensen in tight and his face pressing into the side of Jensen’s neck. He hums, and the sound is low and vibrates through Jensen’s skin and Jensen smiles. Because he’d never thought having Jared would really make his life this good.
