Sometimes, Jensen wonders about Jared. Really, he wonders about him all the time, but he’s learned to only give serious consideration to special situations.

On their second date, just a month since they first met at the local coffee shop and had innocently flirted on a regular basis, Jensen reaches out to Jared’s face. His fingers and thumb are light and careful as he plucks an eyelash from the cheek.

Jared flinches but then smiles. “What? I have snot or something?”

Jensen rolls his eyes, but still puts his hand up with the finger and thumb together. “You had an eyelash.”

Leaning forward, Jared smiles. “Aww, cool.”

“Make a wish.”

“Really?”

“Isn’t that how it goes?” Jensen asks with a tiny smile.

Jared closes his eyes, leans forward, and says, “Please let me suck Jensen,” then blows at it.

Jensen stares, a strange combination of want and confusion crossing his mind. “I don’t think … you’re not supposed to say it aloud.”

“Oh,” he frowns. “Um, forget I said that.”

Two dates later, they’re having breakfast at a local diner.

When the food comes, Jared spins his plate two, three times until the eggs are directly next to his right hand, potatoes in the twelve o’clock position, and bacon distinctly pointing to seven.

He eats one bite from each group of food, dedicated to keeping the ratio exact on his plate.

Jensen is distracted with watching Jared that when he grabs for the pepper, he fumbles and spills it across the table.

Jared flinches forward, worriedly rambling, “Oh, my God, Jen, what’re you, it’s bad, you’re in trouble.” He grabs the shaker and tosses it over Jensen’s shoulder.

With a glance back, Jensen sees the thing rolling across the floor then he frowns at Jared. “Pretty sure it’s salt that’s bad luck.”

Jared grabs that shaker and throws it, too.

“What’re you – ”

He leans forward and kisses Jensen. “For good luck.” Another kiss, and then he murmurs, “Don’t say I never did anything for you.”

Jared calms for a few weeks, and Jensen is grateful.

They go on dates, laugh, talk, bond. They also have some great makeout sessions and long bouts of sex.

Jensen’s pretty damned happy with things.

When they spend the afternoon at the park, jogging together then walking the more rocky paths together, it’s nice and easy.

But then Jared rushes forward and grabs a dandelion. He plucks at the petals, mumbling, “He loves me, he loves me not, he loves me, he loves me not.” He frowns and throws the stem down before grabbing another.

Jared demolishes another four dandelions, always unhappy with the end result.

His tiny frown is more than Jensen can take, so when Jared grabs a sixth flower and starts tugging on petals, Jensen can’t help but butt in.

He snatches the whole top off the flower and declares, “He loves you.”

Jared looks up with a tiny smile that amplifies into a grin. He grabs one more flower, yanks off the top and says, “He loves you, too.”

Jensen kisses him on the spot and doesn’t let go until he needs air.
