A few old recs
Nov. 13th, 2011 02:31 pmThis weekend, I've been traveling for work - being stuck at the airport, on a plane, in the hotel room - and found myself floating around other people's journals until I reread stuff. It's almost comical how these two are related, but I honestly just started with 'I'll read
zuben_eschamali's RBB' (They're Advertising in the Skies (For People Like Us), which is also great!) and then I clicked around a bunch of other pages and remembered how much I loved these two stories from last year's Reverse Big Bang.

Even in a world where extraordinary mutations are increasingly common, being born with wings makes it difficult to lead anything like an ordinary life. Jared is a solitary semi-superhero who makes a rescue one night that puts him in danger with only the man he rescued to guide him through it.
The story is fabulous with great drama that's not over-the-top, and a nice companion story that grows into more. The art is gorgeous with the details of the buildings and Jared's wings. Be sure to check the timestamps, too.

Jared's biggest concerns include figuring out how to get his daily fix of item F3 from the break room vending machine, avoiding his peculiar coworkers in said break room, organizing a Worker Appreciation Day for his company, and avoiding suicidal mice in top hats.
I remember how sweet the art was and the fic just charmed me right over. Rereading last night, I loved it even more because the narration and funny asides stood out this time and I was smiling from beginning to end. The art has fabulous colors and is so effing adorable I can't stand it.
Enjoy!
