STAY COOL!

My one-bedroom apartment is arranged just such that the AC wall unit does not keep the entire apartment cool. When I first moved in three years ago, Dad and I went to Home Depot at 8pm, after moving all day long in 90+ temps, to buy and put a window unit in, in the bedroom. The last two years, I've been proactive about getting him here to help put it in (last year, my brother even came over and helped) ... yet this year, I knew that wouldn't happen. He's having some major back and hip issues/pain/something going on. Also? My bedroom is pretty messy and I knew he'd give me shit if I didn't clean up before he came over to put it in ...

So it's been warm and really pretty warm the last few weeks, but cool enough at night that I could still sleep with the windows and balcony door open. Today, however, I just couldn't stand it anymore. I was trying to hold out because despite it getting to 89 this afternoon, the weather is supposed to drop back to 60s by the weekend. So it seemed ridiculous to turn the AC on for two days ... and then I sat here tonight and kept feeling warm and sweaty wherever my body was touching my armchair, and breaking out in a sweat just going to the bathroom (it's the furthest part of the apartment from the rest of the apartment, so it tends to stay warm).

Around 11pm, I looked at the thermostat and it read 85 O_O

And so, even at my 'bedtime', I walked down the hall to my storage unit, pushed the AC box back to my apartment, carried it (somehow) into my bedroom and managed to get the dang thing in all by myself. The apartment is now finally starting to cool off - though not enough to sleep yet - and I'm feeling rather accomplished! YAY COOL AIR!

In other news,

I have never been a ST fan. Not to say you can only love one or the other, but we've always been a Star Wars generation in our house. My dad grew up in the time of the TV series, obviously, but he wasn't a huge fan of it, and my brother and cousin were always more into SW and comic book heroes. I did enjoy the first reboot, so I was fairly interested in seeing this one.

Except, I then fell asleep during it. I have seen TONS of movies in the theaters and have only fallen asleep once before (during Lincoln, which I wanted to enjoy, but it was just so LONG). IDEK, I was getting annoyed by the lack of real character movement, except in Spock, obviously, but Kirk being hell-bent on revenge for Pike's death, just seemed super cliche to me.

There were funny parts, sure, but then it got confusing for me once Harrison's truth comes out and further more when he's detailing even more of what the torpedoes were for ... I fell asleep right around then, so I still don't really get the whole point. I then woke up with Kirk in the isolation chamber and Spock on the other side of the window and I was like WTF HAS HAPPENED?! HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN SLEEPING? WHY IS THIS MOVIE SO LONG?

I'm openly admitting it's just me. I have never had any connection with these characters, this epic fandom and its history, so I get that I need to be really awed by it. But I just wasn't. At all.

(related to ST disappointments, Felicia Day broke down the women's issue)

Speaking of being unawed (it's a word, shut up) by hyped up movies, I didn't really enjoy Iron Man 3, which led to me admitting to many people (to their disdain) that I didn't like Iron Man 2 either. I was super impressed by Oz in the opening credits and the first 30 minutes, then they lost me for the over-the-top angst of how the witches became witches and James Franco didn't do anything for me in that role. The Place Beyond the Pines got incredibly long and wasn't quite what I was expecting so I walked out feeling decent about it, but nowhere near as impressed as my parents were. I enjoyed Django Unchained (and esp. Kristoph Waltz), but I didn't feel like it was OMG BEST MOVIE EVER or Oscar worthy in anything other than original script. And as noted above, I fell asleep during Lincoln, which I was expecting to really love.

IDK, I feel like my movie mojo is off this year. I did really enjoy Zero Dark Thirty a million times more than I had imagined I would. And Jack the Giant Slayer was a treasure. But that's about it for me so far this year.

I don't know if it's me. If it's movies being overhyped. If it's the actual movie industry declining or what ...
