Here is a story about how clueless my brother, the super-smart computer programmer, can be ...

He emails me this link that declares it has The Secret to Awesome Deviled Eggs. Which, is pretty cool, because he and I looooove deviled eggs, our family has been having them for decades, and I make them for every holiday.

Then I read the ingredients ... first realizing it has twice as many as my ultra-traditional version, but really ...

¼ cup rice wine vinegar
2 Tbsp mustard seeds
12 eggs
4 ½ Tbsp crab roe
2 ½ Tbsp crème fraiche
2 ½ Tbsp mayonnaise
1 ½ Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 ½ Tbsp sherry
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
¾ tsp champagne vinegar
Salt and white pepper, to taste
Chives, snipped into ½-inch pieces, for garnish



Me: Did you actually READ it? They want you to add CRAB ROE!
Him: So? If Men's Health Guy Gourmet says its good, then its good!!!
Me: GROSS. FYI: a place in Chicago sells 2 oz bottles for $35. Have fun with that.

[I actually did google the price and found this place, if anyone is hankering for some roe :-\]

Him: Oh. I just googled crab roe. I didn't even know what it was. I assume you can blend it so it doesn't feel like eggs on your tongue?
Me: OMG NO DON'T DO THAT. Roe is what's topped on the eggs in that picture. They're like tiny little gelatinous beads. ICK!
