Master Post and Notes

Jensen wiped his wet face with a fluffy hand towel, trying to also wipe away his grogginess and wake himself up. He scrubbed a few more times, even when he heard Jared moving in and out of the bathroom, or when he could tell Jared was planted in the doorway. He dropped the towel, gave a quick sideways glance with a tired smile then looked back up to the mirror, all red eyes and sleep-induced face crinkles.

Jared cleared his throat and Jensen slowly turned and leaned at the sink. He stared, waiting for something, but Jared just grinned.

“What d’you want?” Jensen asked, sounding groggy but smiling just the same.

He smirked and gave a light head tilt. Jensen squinted through the haze of the morning and for not having his contacts in yet. His eyes roamed up and stopped when they spotted the drop of foliage above Jared’s head. He shook his head, smiling lightly before turning back to the counter. Jared said plainly, “Misteltoe.”

Jensen released a sigh that was a tiny bit on the sweet side and stepped forward and up to Jared for a quick kiss.

“Thank you,” Jared smiled happily, and Jensen patted his chest on the way out.

Come noon, as Jensen shuffled pans across the stovetop and minded each one’s cooking speeds, Jared worked behind him to gather sides for their lunch. He popped in and out of the fridge, snagging items then placing them back when he found a better salad dressing, sharper cheese, or fresher tomatoes.

Jensen moved to set the food at the table but he stopped when he realized Jared was practically camped out at the fridge. When he looked over, he caught the sight of mistletoe hanging precariously from the top of the freezer door. Jared pointed up. “Mistletoe.”

He shook his head and heaved a loud breath, but still smiled as he closed in and kissed Jared.

“Thank you,” Jared said cheerfully.

“You bet.”

Returning from his evening walk with the dogs, Jensen shuffling them through the foyer and unclipped their leashes. He patted their sides before tapping with a bit of force and instructing, “Go on, kids.” He roamed the first floor while shaking off his coat and shucking it at the dining table. The kitchen was empty as well as the living room, so he called out, “Where you at?”

“Down here!” Jared yelled from the basement.

When Jensen got down there, Jared was transferring laundry and looking up with a smile. For whatever reason, Jensen looked up high and immediately saw the mistletoe. Just seconds before his mouth caught Jared’s, he said, “You’re cute.”

“Thank you.” Jared tugged on the hem of Jensen’s sweater and his voice went gentle. “For the cute thing.”

“Oh? Not the kiss?” Jensen smirked.

“Maybe the kiss.”

They spent the latter part of the evening enjoying cider at a local bar, smiling and laughing and just being them, together. On the walk home, they bumped shoulders and shared walking space, being easy and feeling warm despite the cold chill in the air.

Jared stopped at a storefront and tapped at the glass. “Now that’s a TV,” he laughed, pointing out the massive 82” wide screen monstrosity. When there was no response, he turned to Jensen and caught sight of a tiny smirk, bright eyes, and his hand up high, holding mistletoe. Jared laughed. “You stealing my moves now?”

Jensen just shook the piece.

“Gosh,” he sighed playfully. “If I must.” They shared warm lips with a slight press and when Jared moved back, he beamed and slid his hand into Jensen’s. They took a few steps before Jared squeezed Jensen’s hand then cleared his throat with a raised eyebrow. “Anything you wanna say?”

“We’re not getting the TV.”

He chuckled, tugging harder on the hand, pulling Jensen in but avoiding a kiss. Just keeping him close enough to breathe the same breath. “No, not the TV.” Then he grabbed hold of Jensen’s hand, the one with the mistletoe and held it above Jensen’s head. He kissed him again, still soft and kind.

“Thank you,” Jensen smiled.

Jared’s mouth quirked. “Welcome.”
