Title: Wandering Lost
Words: 36,000
Summary: Hired by an eccentric billionaire, Jensen is tasked with transporting a '55 Ford F-100 from California to New York. After the car breaks down, he's stuck in the middle of Nebraska and spends a week getting to know a whole mix of oddballs he'd never spend a minute with back in NYC. "Not all who wander are lost," but Jensen's a little of both as he warms up to the townspeople and the local handyman, who is equal parts peculiar and charming. And maybe he even finds himself along the way. Written for 2017 [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang.

Notes: First off, to [livejournal.com profile] wendy for continuing to run this monster challenge all on her own. I can't imagine the patience and fortitude it takes to wrangle everyone together, or the care to continue loving and encouraging all the fabulous people in this fandom and keep up a beautiful tradition.

To my artist [livejournal.com profile] thruterryseyes: Thank you so much for all of your hard work!! So many pieces make me feel so much joy, for the moments you selected, the lines of dialogue you added, or the particular pictures to illustrate my story. Thank you so much for picking me! And for putting up with all of my lateness throughout the last month. You're very kind and patient :)

To one of my favorite people in the entire universe, [livejournal.com profile] kelleigh. There aren't enough thank yous in the world for the time you committed to helping me whip this into shape. And also thank you SO MUCH for your constructive criticism that made this story so much stronger than what I had originally pulled together. I value the input and support more than you will ever know. 110% stellar beta from top to bottom, and I continue to love you every day for being my friend and support <3333

Quick run by thanks to [livejournal.com profile] zubeneschamali, [livejournal.com profile] rozearkana, [livejournal.com profile] cherie_morte, [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c, and [livejournal.com profile] quickreaver for cheering me on, brainstorming together, and being such lovely people as I raced in fits and starts to write this story. I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS BAR.

Hey folks! I survived a hellish April and May at work, and yet I can't believe it's June already. Oy vey!

June means [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang and I'm posting on the FIRST DAY!!! (meep)

So next Thursday, June 8th, my Big Bang will go up, with art from [livejournal.com profile] thruterryseyes. Here's the summary ...

Wandering Lost
Hired by an eccentric billionaire, Jensen is tasked with transporting a '55 Ford F100 from California to New York. After the car breaks down, he's stuck in the middle of Kansas and spends a week getting to know a whole mix of oddballs he'd never spend a minute with back in NYC. "Not all who wander are lost," but Jensen's a little of both as he warms up to the townspeople and the local handyman, who is equal parts peculiar and charming. And maybe he even finds himself along the way.

Jensen's story is centered in a small town with dusty county roads; a one-block-long downtown area that has classic old feel of Middle America with an ice cream shop, diner, second-hand store, etc.; a quiet bed and breakfast; and garden parties and yard sales.

Can't wait to get this sucker out there! :D

with 30 minutes to spare in my time zone ...

despite only sleeping about 3 hours last night so I could get up early and (not really) write before conference calls ...

and even though I only had about 10,000 this morning ...

jesus christ. i need sleep.

but first! celebratory beer!

Spent the last two days out on the East Coast for work meetings then crashing on [livejournal.com profile] cherie_morte's couch. Had lovely dinners and drinks with [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c and [livejournal.com profile] riyku among others. Spent so much time reliving past laughter along with gushing over [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang ideas, but not a whole lot of time writing. Got some done today and plan on more tomorrow when I'm back home.

Work is going to be nuts this coming week ... but I also took May 1st off to nail this whole thing down. *fingers crossed*

Had a stressful and tiring day at work, so when I came home, I wanted to do nothing but sleep, cry, and drink. In any order. But I'd already told my brother I would go to the gym with him and doing 30 mins on the full-body elliptical did me some good to get over the annoyances lingering from work.

Then I came home, had a wee snack, and got in a quick sprint to round out my goal of 1000 words/day during the week (and more on the weekends).

Getting there ...

April 17: The day I finally start writing [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang.

Every year I seem to get worse and worse with making the May 1st draft deadline a realistic marker. I had perfectly good plans to do it this year! To get a draft done early and complete. I brainstormed like 7-8 ideas with [livejournal.com profile] cleflink! Then came up with a few other randoms that I brainstormed with others long enough to feel interested, but never enough to get words down.

Of course today, when I realize how terrible my work schedule is becoming, especially as I will be traveling for half the days between now and May 1st (plus my dad's 70th birthday party and plenty of other obligations/plans), I've decided to finally settle on an idea and WRITE SOMETHING.

HERE WE GO AGAIN.

YAY BIG BANG.

(ugh how is this fun???)

also? is that not the cutest lil word counter ever? I may have wasted time looking for a fun one, then learning the coding, instead of writing or sleeping or something.
